Frequently Asked Questions
What is functional medicine nutrition?
Functional medicine nutrition is a branch of functional medicine that takes a holistic approach to nutrition counseling. This unique approach looks into every aspect of an individual’s health and lifestyle with the understanding that everything is interconnected and there is no one-size-fits-all approach to health. Through the development of customized nutrition plans tailored to your individual needs, we achieve targeted and lasting results.
What is clinical herbalism?
Unlike conventional medicine, which focuses on treating symptoms or specific conditions with pharmaceuticals, clinical herbalism takes a more holistic approach which looks at the whole person and their unique patterns and needs. Clinical herbalists are highly trained professionals who have extensive knowledge of medicinal plants as well as anatomy and physiology. We use this knowledge to prepare customized herbal blends and treatment plans for our clients, taking into account their individual health concerns, lifestyle factors, constitutional makeup, energetic patterns, and any other relevant factors.
What can I expect during an intake session?
Intake sessions are 75 minutes in length. This allows us time to go through your whole health history and gather as much information as possible to develop a nutrition and herbal protocol that supports your unique needs. You will receive your protocol within two business days of your session date. In addition to your protocol, you will also receive informative handouts that relate to your individual health goals. All herbal formulas are personally formulated and put together by me and will be shipped within 3 business days of your session.
Can you run labs?
No, I cannot run labs. When I feel that it is appropriate, I may ask you to get certain labs done by your GP. Though, often I find that there is so much that can be done to improve someone’s health through focusing on improving their body’s “terrain” that fancy and expensive labs are not always necessary anyway. Of course, I will happily look at labs that you have already had done as part of my information gathering.
